Care Home Residents pay Tribute to the Queen

It has been a solemn couple of weeks across Rapport Housing & Care’s care homes this week, as residents have taken some time to remember their Monarch.

The news of the Queen’s passing has been saddening for many of us across the country but for the older amongst us, it is particularly upsetting, as much of the older population grew up alongside Her Majesty.

So many of the residents living in our homes can remember celebrating her coronation and the many milestones that followed throughout her 70-year reign. So, over the past two weeks, they have taken some time to remember and honour her and her incredible life of duty.

At Dene Holm Residential Care Home in Northfleet, staff accompanied residents to lay flowers at the Queen’s statue in Gravesend, so they could pay their respects.

Meanwhile, at Rogers House Residential Care Home in Wigmore, staff set up a special area, displaying a photo of the Queen and a place for messages, so residents could leave a single Rose and write a message of condolence, if they wanted to. The residents also signed a card, which staff delivered to St Margaret’s Church in Rainham.

Jackie Miles, Home Manager of Rogers House said: “All of us here at Rogers House, and particularly our residents, were incredibly sad to hear of the Queen’s passing. Our residents grew up alongside Her Majesty and to them, she was a constant, someone they could look up to and admire.

“In giving our residents the opportunity to pay their respects, say goodbye and thank Her Majesty for her service, we hope it has given them some comfort as they mourn the loss of a wonderful Monarch.”
