Pets Enjoy Doggy Day Care at Barnes Lodge

They say every dog has its day and Monday was definitely Tess’, as she enjoyed plenty of attention from the residents of Barnes Lodge Care Home in Tonbridge.

It was ‘Pets at Home Day’ on Monday at the Tudeley Lane care home, when Social Activities Facilitator, Vicki, brought her dog, Tess, in to meet the residents.

Lead by Vicki, a very well behaved Tess made sure to visit all the residents, so no one missed out on greeting the important visitor. Overjoyed to meet a new furry friend, many of the residents remembered their memories of when they had their own pets.

After lunch, some of the residents joined Vicki and Tess on a short dog walk, an activity which was particularly nostalgic for one resident, Madge, who was prompted to recall fond memories of walking her dogs.

Nicky Pett, General Manager of Barnes Lodge said: “We know pet therapy is extremely beneficial for older people, particularly those living with dementia, and so we try to embrace animals and involve them in life here as much as possible.

“The residents loved meeting Tess, who was an absolute star all day, and it was just wonderful to see their faces light up and hear their own memories of their former pets.”
