Gillingham Residents Enjoy Impromptu Afternoon Tea
We all know what it’s like when you’ve got a craving for something, which won’t be satisfied until you have it. So, when one of the Rogers House residents told staff she really fancied a fresh cream cake, staff decided to put on a spread of them.
It was time for tea at the Wigmore residential care home last week, when the residents got together to enjoy an afternoon tea treat of fresh cream cakes, alongside a nice cup of Rosy Lee.
From chocolate eclairs to a classic fluffy Victoria sponge, residents were spoilt for choice with the variety of tasty treats on offer.
With life not yet back to normal, staff are recognising the importance of seemingly small gestures and the joy they can bring, putting more emphasis than ever on activities and socialising with one another, whilst volunteers and entertainers are still unable to join residents.
Jackie Miles, Home Manager at Rogers House said: “At the moment more than ever, it’s all about the little things, so when one of the residents told us she’d like a fresh cream cake, the activity staff thought why not host a cream tea for all the residents.
“Everyone had a lovely afternoon, nattering away and forgetting their worries. There was a lot of talk about making it a regular Friday activity, so I’d say it went down well!”
