Turning Ninety Calls for a 99

When Barnes Lodge resident Madge turned 90, staff came up with the brilliant idea of hiring an ice cream van to come to the care home. For Madge, turning nighty years old meant her own private party of 99 ice creams for all!

Barnes Lodge Care Home in Tudeley Lane, Tonbridge, had a sweet treat over the weekend for resident Madge’s 90th birthday celebrations. Whilst this birthday was slightly different for Madge this year due to Covid-19, the caring staff at Barnes Lodge ensured she was still spoilt and got the whole home 99 ice creams to celebrate.

The van turned up and staff took Madge to the window to see, who welled up with delight at seeing her birthday present. She was absolutely delighted and even though it had been raining, the staff went out and got a 99 ice cream for every resident in the home.

Activity Coordinator at Barnes Lodge, Kay said: “Just seeing Madge’s face light up and her emotions at seeing the truck had come just for her was so wonderful. The whole home got to enjoy this treat and the ice cream van was kind enough to not charge us for coming out to us, it was a fabulous day.”

Nicky Pett, Home Manager at Barnes Lodge commented: “We just love birthdays here and they are celebrated in style. Whilst Madge couldn’t have a big party with her family, the staff made sure she felt special and was pampered for the day – which I think we achieved.”
