Residents Pull Together at Watling Court

For residents living at Watling Court Extra Care Housing Scheme, the lockdown is proving difficult, as they distance from their neighbours during the pandemic.

With lunch in the restaurant and activities off the cards, residents at the Gravesend scheme are certainly feeling the effects of the current lockdown measures.

But in a bid to lift spirits, residents are supporting one another and finding ways to help each other out. One resident, Suzanne, has been running a small shop service, offering items that have either been donated or she has bought herself. The pop-up shop enables residents to buy essential items and some treats too, without needing to go out.

Another resident, Pat, has been sprucing up the garden with some lovely new plants, which were kindly gifted to the scheme by Pat’s daughter. Pat hopes the new flowers will brighten up the view for residents when they look out of their windows.

Helen Goulding, Housing Officer at Watling Court said: “Our residents are usually incredibly social here, so naturally lockdown is proving difficult for everyone to adapt to distancing.

“Having said that, it’s a genuine community here and it’s been lovely to see how they are all managing to remotely support one another and are still looking out for one another, even at these truly difficult times.”
