Care Home Bids Farewell to Long Serving Employee
Residents and staff of Rogers House Residential Care Home in Wigmore said an emotional goodbye this week, when Janet Lucas retired after 24 years at the home.
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house this week, when a much-loved member of staff at the Drewery Drive care home bid farewell to everyone to start her much earned retirement.
Seventy-seven-year-old Janet Lucas started her career as a carer at the Wigmore care home, just a couple of years after it opened, and went on to look after the day care residents. Despite her leaving her job at the home, Janet is keen to come back and spend time with the staff and residents, as a volunteer.
On her last day, she was showered with cards, gifts and flowers, as she has become a much loved member of the team over the years for staff, residents and their families too.
When asked about her lengthy stay at Rogers House, Janet said: “I’ve always felt really comfortable here, I like the company, the staff, the residents, I’ve made some good friends too. It’s just nice to be part of a team.”
Jackie Miles, Home Manager at Rogers House added: “Janet has been an integral member of the team for many years and will be dearly missed, however, we are looking forward to welcoming her back as a volunteer.”
